About me

Hello! I’m Justine Win Cañete /kan-nye-te/ - A Filipino product designer based in Ottawa who loves to craft platform and end-to-end experiences with scalability in mind. I'm currently a staff product designer at Clio working on Documents. Previously, I led the design for Identity, Subscriptions, and Firm admin.

Back in 2024, I led the design of two platform teams at Gusto: Communications and Compliance where I shipped projects related to notifications, emails, compliance regulations, and platform patterns. Before that, I worked at Shopify across Identity, Merchandising, and Draft orders and shipped projects related to deferred payments, B2B, and single sign-on.

Earlier in my career before moving to Canada, I worked with startups and tech agencies in the Philippines. I played a significant role in the UX community by running the first Design Sprint workships in my country which led me to where I am right now.

What are my core principles?

My core principles are freedom, efficiency, and growth.

What are my archetypes?

I’m an ambivert INTJ with cool blue and fiery red as my primary energies. I like big picture thinking and working backwards from a goal with intent. I generally need time to process information but once I have a clear answer, I can get very passionate sharing my discovery and engaging in conversations with others. Although these archetypes are known to be introverts, I actually draw my energy from small groups conversations and alone time with my partner and our cats.

What are my design principles?

Making people succeed with ease. Our job as product builders is to help people get the job done as easy as possible so they can focus on what matters most. I dislike softwares that get in the way of productivity and value. When people say “the experience needs delight”, I don’t think of fancy animations, I think of workflows that are so easy that it feels like ⋆˙⟡ magic ⋆˙⟡.

What’s my favorite phase in design?

Problem definition, exploration, and iteration. I equally love making sense of the ambiguity and improving my work through reviews and research. Nothing excites me more than learning what works and what doesn’t because it leads me a step closer to the right answer.

What's your go-to work music playlist?

I'm a sucker for lofi and ambient music. Lately, I'm into ggg and RE:Tape Studios.

What are your hobbies?

Baking, making (the best, ahem) matcha, playing acoustic guitar, cleaning, gaming, cafe hopping, and traveling. Lately, I tried my hand in bead jewellery making and I'll for sure spend more time getting better at tennis this summer.
